| The Word is Out—Technology Ventures are Thriving in Richmond |
Scientific Art Studio blends old and new technologies in a way that mirrors Richmond’s unique appeal to high-tech companies. Richmond is easy to get to by highway or rail—assuring employees of reasonable commutes from across the Bay or from a dozen nearby communities in Contra Costa county. And, the Oakland Airport is just a few minutes away. Next door, the University of California at Berkeley hosts world-class research facilities and the brainpower to go with them. High-tech employers also appreciate the volume of commercial space devoted to new business parks that feature office/flex land use. These parks can accommodate desk-bound knowledge workers or light industrial activity with equal ease.
That’s why Scientific Art Studio is just one of many technology companies making a name for itself in Richmond. Richmond is also home to web application developer Vertigo Software, and Chevron in petrochemical research. DiCon Fiberoptics is one of the world’s largest suppliers of state-of-the-art products that filter, split, attenuate, switch, combine, and monitor light in optical networks. Tinsley Laboratories, with years of experience in processing lightweighted beryllium mirrors, is currently involved in the manufacture of an advanced mirror system demonstration (AMSD) model for the Next Generation Space Telescope (NGST). All of these companies found what they needed in Richmond—room to succeed.

| “Why Scientific Art Studio chose Richmond” |
From the giant baseball mitt at the San Francisco Giants’ AT&T Park (a replica of a vintage 1927 glove), to museum dioramas with real water and live primitive fish, to murals displayed in venues all over the world, to special effects for award-winning commercials and films, Scientific Art Studio brings the worlds of reality and fantasy to life. Our team of artists and craftsmen has been together for many years, putting a combination of cutting-edge fabrication techniques and old-world skills to work on a variety of projects.
After more than a decade in Berkeley, we needed better facilities. Richmond has a solid
inventory of buildings, affordable for sale or lease. There are plenty of local suppliers,
fabricators, artists, and workers. We can count on companies like C&R Loo for glass materials, California Casting for sand casting, Douglas & Sturgess for sculpting tools and modeling compounds, and ClayPeople for ceramic supplies. Richmond also has great access in every direction, so it was a perfect match.
