The Business History of

Joanne's Boutique

Joanne King has been residing and operating a business in historical Downtown Richmond since 1950. Working alongside her parents Leo and Betty Shulster who, after moving from Holland at the end of World War II, purchased the business (formally known as Nefty’s) from their aunt and uncle. After her parents retired, Joanne took over the business that has continued to grow and flourish. Joanne’s Boutique has remained a cornerstone in Downtown Richmond for over 58 years!

Joanne’s, specializes in full-sized women’s fashions. The Boutique offers one of the most complete lines of designer hats, dresses and suits in the Bay Area, including suits and dresses for church, parties, office and casual wear (sizes 6-28), furs purses, jewelry and accessories. The complete wardrobe for the well dressed woman.

Joanne’s Boutique also features fine African-American collectables, including Thomas Blackshear’s Ebony Visions, and Maasai collections.

Many generations of Joanne’s friends and customers remain loyal and continue to travel from all over the Bay Area to her Boutique. Loyal customers who have relocated outside California still depend on Joanne to personally shop for them.
